The Dillema

Posted by seed @ 6:19 AM

Alright folks, here's the situation: I'm slated to attend the Green Tie Ball September 15th. The firm I work for produces materials for the non-profit organization; my wife and I get to attend. The next day is the North Shore Century, which is the last good ride of the season. It's my last chance at this year's ellusive century. Well, I was fine with holding back on the martinis the night before and slugging it in the lakefront wind up and back to Kenosha.

Two days ago, my brother in law calls with tickets to the Bears home opener - face value @ $70 - against the Chiefs. Interestingly enough, I just recently turned down Bergeron and Dutch's offer to hit the Detriot game for $200 a piece.

So, there's not a great chance of getting the 100 miles in, getting back in to town, and making the 3:00 kick-off. Last year, the ride took me six hours of riding time. The last forty are straight down Lakeshore Drive and into the lake wind. The first fifty took me 2.5 hours. The back half took 3.5 hours. The next option is fifty miles, which I can get in with a solid hangover. And then, there's thee pre-game festivities to consider. I live a mile from Soldier Field. The bars will be hopping.

Talk line is open.

hmmm...let me see...

On the one hand we have strenuous activity. On the other we have eating, drinking, and sports. For me it's a no-brainer.

Then again, the only exercise I get is lifting a beer bottle.
