It's Official, Rex is out

The most scrutinized athlete in recent Chicago sports history, Grossman failed to revert to the form he displayed last September when he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month. Instead, the former Florida star failed to generate points or protect the football.
In three games this season, Grossman directed an offense that scored just two touchdowns while committing 10 turnovers on 37 possessions. In his last 16 regular season starts dating back to Week 3 of last year, he threw 25 interceptions and lost five fumbles.
I'd have to share Chuck's sentiments. I too really wanted Rex to work out. He's the best thing the Bears have in terms of potential. Griese is a band-aid, though if he plays well, it will be hard to remove him mid-way through the season. Grossman's contract is up at the end of the year. So, last Sunday could have been his last game as a Bear.
Considering Griese's previous injuries, he might have a short stay as well. And as for Orton, ehhhhh he was good enough to get the Bears into playoffs a few years back. And he's not signed past this year. So he could bail if he's not seeing enough field. If that's the case, then it's back to the shopping mall.

Orton has one more year after this year. He had a four year deal.

Which is why I'd much rather see him in there than Griese.

I'm up for letting the veteran take charge of a flailing offense. Granted, Griese is hardly the seasoned veteran the pundits are making him out ot be. I mean, c'mon, after listening to these guys Griese sounds more like the second coming of Montana. He's had a couple good years, and a mediocre career passer rating. Still, there is something to be said for having a good example for Rex and Kyle to model. Griese might settle everybody down and give the kids a chance to watch somebody with some experience handle things.
It would be great if Rex keeps a good head on his shoulders this season while Brian is taking the snaps. If he reacts to it proactively, and benefits from the lesser role, he could still be the future of the Bears.
If the team is winning, you keep with Griese and tell Rex to wait his turn. True, his contract is up and the end of the year. But Rex's stock is pretty low these days. The Bears could still offer him a decent salary and wink at the end of the year. That might be as good a deal as he can get.
Or, there's the Arena league.
As for Orton. Putting him in at this point, and side-stepping Griese would be a kick in the nads to everybody. The signing of Griese would have been completely pointless. Orton has always been the third stringer, barring injury. Promoting him ahead of Brian just says that the team has zero hope for a QB.
